Sunday School at Holy Trinity
Introduction
Holy Trinity's Sunday School meets in the vestry (or sometimes, weather permitting, outside the church) during the Sunday morning Worship Services, except on the first Sunday of the month where the chidren participate in the All Age Worship Service..
To provide a variety of perspectives for the children, and to bring to bear the widest range of skills and experiences from our church family, about eight teachers lead the Sunday School, in pairs, on a roster basis.
At the conclusion of the Worship Service, the children present to the congregation what they have been doing and what they have learnt during that week’s session.
The age of the children is typically from five years to teenage, with a total of around 6 – 10 members. Several of the children choose also to sing in the choir, ring the bells, act as servers at Eucharist, or play other roles in the Worship Services. In that way, they gain a broad understanding of what talents they can share with the church, and learn what the church experience can offer them.
Teachers have wide latitude to use teaching materials of their own choice, and many choose to use the ROOTS resources for Children and Young People -
http://www.rootsontheweb.com/about-pages/children-youngpeople.html
- with themes and ideas (including on-line resources) that follow the lectionary readings.
From time to time the children participate in community or other charitable activities. For example, for the last three years the children have designed and manned stalls and games at an Annual Garden Party at nearby Cressbrook Hall, where they have raised well over £1,000 for Children In Need, The Children’s Society, Village Aid (a locally-headquartered development charity working in West Africa); and Cancer Research UK.
We are always looking for new teachers, so if you have skills or interests in this area, please do let us know!
